Where we left off

You know I noticed
You on your own
In those crowded
And loud places.

I thought you
Felt like me
I thought you
Felt like home.

We’re loners
But we weren’t
Alone we were
Being watched.

We’re both kids
We’re both naive
Then came a thunderstorm
Tearing us apart.

And we both took off
We both left home
We both got lost
No door would answer.

We fought in the open
We fought till the end
Till our eyes were opened
To our real enemies aim.

Now it’s been years
Of trying to go back
To our normal lives
Hiding the darkness.

I wonder after this
What would have happened
If we didn’t leave
Like we did last time.

And after all this time
We could see where it goes
We could pick off again
From where we left off.
